A Short Vacation

Profunksticated writes this post from Ocean City, Maryland, where he is doing a short vacation with the extended family. I finally had that long talk with my brother about how he’s coping with being a widower. He’s doing as well as he can be. He says that his older son was sad since this is the first vacation they’ve been on without his mom, who passed away three months ago. Along with my brother, I’m here with my parents, my two sons, two nephews and my sister. My dad’s improved, but he’s still tired. They will be here through July 5.

Meantime, I’ll only be here until later today, when I head back to the D.C. area, Alexandria, Virginia, to be exact, for yet one more interview on Wednesday. Again, we’ll see what happens. I’m still awaiting decisions from the other three firms I’ve talked to.

I know I’ve been blessed but I don’t always act like it. Remember The Spouse’s Uncle F? Among the things he left for my mother-in-law was a car, a 2002 Buick LeSabre Custom. My mother-in-law gave it to us after having a GM dealer give it the proper repairs. It had been garaged for a year and a half and has less than 25,000 miles. I drove it down here to Maryland and it rides real nice. This car is one of the few things of value we’ve owned free and clear. I’ll be the one driving it, mostly around Washington, of course.

Thanks, Mom and rest in peace, Uncle F.

  1. awesome - congrats on getting away to the ocean, even if only for a day. what a refresher that is. i hope you and your fam have a great time enjoying the sun, sand and most of all each other.

may the peace of the waves and the ocean breeze help soothe the pain of your sister-in-law’s absence. may warm thoughts of her beauty fill your hearts as you enjoy the beauty of the beach and togetherness.

Thanks much Ms. Dragonfly. We didn’t do the beach, but we did the swimming pools. At dinner tonight, my nephew said “I wish my mom was here.” I said, “We all do.”

  2. Enjoy the vacay, no matter how brief it may be and I’m glad you’re getting a break from the gas guzzler. I hope you’ve got a spirit of expectancy regarding the job. Can’t wait to hear what gem of a job God blesses you with.

A, thank you. I’ve tried over the years to develop a spirit of being in service, regardless of the job.

  3. Dayum that’s deep. It’s like sweet and sour. Sweet to be able to spend time with family and sour because of the events surrounding it.

It’s always nice to be able to remember that life ain’t as bad as we may feel at times.

Hey, Cat, welcome back. You’re right. It was a nice time, made bittersweet by my sis-in-law’s absence.

  4. The LeSabre may be a boat but it’s a good car. My older bro is still pushing the LeSabre my folks bought new in 1992. 200K (or maybe 300K) miles, an alternator and a couple of water pumps later and it’s still going strong.

Welcome back, Ms. Savvy! I’ll bet that the ‘ 92 LeSabre didn’t undergo an entire engine change, like what happened with my ‘99 Caddy DeVille. I do really love the ride of this ‘02 LeSabre. We expect to keep this land yacht for more than a few minutes. LOL!

  6. You must be something extraordinary. God really blesses you. Free house! Free car!! Free cartridges to sell!!! Multiple avenues for a new job!!!! You are in the DMV for a reason, my friend. Be blessed.

Dag, A, me extraordinary??!! Maybe. God has blessed me, and I’ve most times been totally unappreciative. But that last episode with the rental car deductible helped to reopen my eyes. Now as far as the free house, I haven’t got that, that was my parents. But the free car and cartridges, yup, those were mine. And the multiple possibilities for gigs? Yeah, that’s nice. Truth be told, I had an inkling as far back as 2005 that I might end up somehow in the Washington area, or as you call it, the DMV. You also be blessed.

  7. The Prognosticated If LH thinks in 2008 that commercial was bad, he ain’t seen nothing yet. Let’s head back to 1943, when Warner Brothers released a piece of animation called by some one of the greatest cartoon shorts ever made. Only one problem: It features, by today’s standards, some of the most racist, over-the-top caricatures of African Americans ever committed to celluloid.
